MUSIC AND SOUND DESIGN
hey, I’m Chris…
I am a musician first and foremost. I love collaborating and
making music that I feel a connection to. Creatively achieving
the sound I'm looking for, a tone I'm trying to achieve, a progression that doesn't sound like everything else, and finally music that lends itself to a visual aspect...that's what
really gets me exited. I made the decision to transition into studio life as well as being a musician so that I could even further invest myself into the music industry. I graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado with my bachelors of arts degree in Audio Production. Since I've gotten to work on many post production projects as well as movies, commercials, voice overs, podcasts and of course recording artists. Now with many projects under my belt and a talent for translating ideas into reality, I see myself helping to grow your ideas to see their full potential. I hope to never stop learning the power of collaborating and creatively making the artists vision come to life.
WHAT THEY SAY…
“Working with Chris was a pleasure, first as a human and therewith his professionalism and work ethic. The recording session was done well organized, prepared and with hospitality. The final product of this session was great!! We are happy with the final mix. I hope to work with Chris in the future.” -El Javi
“ We had a blast recording with Chris. He really gives the artist an intimate and personalized recording experience. Whether it’s sitting down to really understand the root and depths of a song or helping a guitarist hone in on the details that really make a tone pop - he has the knowledge and tools to get it done.” -Native Station
“Chris has helped me with numerous projects in multiple bands and we’ve been incredibly impressed with every interaction. His work is professional and has been completed earlier than anticipated on a regular basis, plus he makes the whole process super easy and fun. 10/10 would recommend!” - The Bobby Miller Band
WORK IT BIRD SESSIONS
Work It Bird Studios hosts a program on YouTube called Work It Bird Sessions. It’s a show for musicians that promotes local and traveling bands; both providing a live studio performance where musicians get to play a few of their songs and tell us about their process, experiences as a group, and song writing.
How it works: We set up your session to be held at Work It Bird Studios, our home studio located in Longmont, Colorado. There, you’ll perform a few songs and we’ll do an interview where you can plug tour dates, local shows, upcoming album releases, etc. Along with receiving a professionally recorded session, we will put together a 20-25 minute video of your live session. After mixing, editing, and mastering for streaming purposes, we will release a video of your session on our Work It Bird Sessions YouTube channel. We’ll also release a Work It Bird EP of 2- 3 of your songs to Spotify and iTunes.
We encourage you to boast about your visit on your social media platforms and tag Work It Bird Studios so that we can both benefit by sharing with our audiences! Some good times to share are; before coming into the studio, while you’re in the session, and once the video has been released.
Want more?? Here’s an added bonus: You will receive .wav files of the recorded tracks edited for your to use on Bandcamp, SoundCloud, etc. You will also have the chance to be featured & promoted by my Studio on social media outlets, including a song of the month posted on iTunes and Spotify and our session posted on iTuens on my podcast channel Work It Bird Sessisons.
Musicians
PIERCE MURPHY
Pierce Murphy is a vocalist/guitarist from Denver with a distinct approach to jazz and soul. From penthouse clubs in Hiroshima, Japan to neighborhood bars in Paris, he’s made his way around the world performing for captivated audiences. The trio—his preferred format—fills out the classic vibe with acoustic upright bass and bebop drum kit. The sound calls to mind artists like Chet Baker, Bill Withers, and Amy Winehouse. Pierce performs original music in addition to jazz standards and reinterpreted modern pop and hip hop.
GLEEWOOD
Gleewood is a New Mexican husband/wife fronted Americana band that grooves through blues, folk, and rock 'n' roll. Jhett and Callie Sioux's lyrics lend a story to folk and roots music enthusiasts and bring an energy that swells into dynamic jams pumped from the heart of the psychedelic 60s.
WHISKEY AUTUMN
Combining retro jangle with a modern beat, Whiskey Autumn blurs genre lines to create surf dream pop psychedelia. The band's new album, Modern Doubt, dropped on April 12, 2019. The lead single, "Birds That Flew," was described by 303 Magazine as “...jamming out where your parents don’t know about. This music means to elicit a response, to make the listener feel funky and strange in the best way.”
PREP RALLY
"I hope this doesn't sound weird..." That was the tentative text Drew Norris sent to Tatum Russo that marked the beginning of what is now electro-pop duo Prep Rally. It started off with Drew sending Tatum bits and pieces of riffs and progressions he'd written on the piano. Tatum would then write lyrics to these snippets, prompting both to build on them and eventually arrange them into full songs. This eventually led to the duo playing local shows around Denver in 2017, and the release of their first EP "Passing Notes" in early 2018. It's taken a little while for the band to find it's home, stylistically, but they've settled into a poppy, electronic vibe that draws from 80s synthpop but quickly diverges into it's own, quirky sound.
